FIFA President Mr Gianni Infantino and his African counterpart, Dr Patrice Motsepe, paid a courtesy visit to the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Thursday September 9 2021.
During the visit to the State House, the Nigerian president was presented with a number 10 jersey and a football.
The No. 10 jersey is iconic in football and usually worn by skillful players who have a great impact on a team.
Among the famous footballers who wore Number 10 jerseys are Jay-Jay Okocha, Pele, Diego Maradona, Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldinho, and Lionel Messi, who currently plays for PSG in Ligue 1, France.
Also in attendance were the Sports Minister, Sunday Dare, and the President of Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick.
The FIFA and CAF chiefs earlier attended the start of the Aisha Buhari Cup on Wednesday, September 15 2021, in Lagos State.
According to a statement by CAF, Motsepe will also be meeting with different stakeholders in Nigeria to discuss the advancement of football in Africa, in particular women’s football development.
