English striker James Keene has returned to his old Swedish club Elfsborg in a bid to keep fit but his future remains uncertain after ending his spell at SuperSport United.

Keene played for 20 minutes in a friendly at the weekend as he decides what is the next step in his career.

The 33-year-old played at Elfsborg between 2007 and 2013 before moving to Bidvest Wits and then SuperSport United. He has scored 21 goals in three season in the Absa Premiership

“James always looks like James Keene, but there’s is no drama with this! We are always positive that old players come back and keep going. It suits both him and us as well,” said Elfsborg’s technical director Stefan Andreasson.

“It wasn’t the idea to discuss a contract, but things can change quickly in football. But he has alternatives in South Africa even if I understand it right.”

Keene told local reporters: “I am not saying that I have great expectations that I will play in Elfsborg again, certainly not, but you can hope that there is a small opportunity. I am 33 years old but feel at least fresh and strong. I haven’t talked to any other club in Sweden. I might embark on a new adventure somewhere in the world.”
