The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit (task force) has arrested 46 motorcyclists for allegedly attacking and injuring some of its officials in the Oshodi area of the state.
The Chairman of the task force, Olayinka Egbeyemi, said, we recieved a distressed call that 14 illegal commercial motorcyclists attacked the enforcement team and injured a paramilitary officer, Innocent Okoro, and damaged some operational vehicles.
Egbeyemi stated that after committing the act, the motorcyclists escaped into a compound on Igbehinadun Street and locked themselves up.
He added that 46 suspects were arrested and after thorough screening, 18 were released, noting that the remaining suspects would be prosecuted.
He said, “The enforcement team, with the support of other officials coming from an enforcement operation on the Lagos Island, chased them into the compound and discovered a large number of motorcyclists and miscreants smoking Indian hemp in a residential house.
“While some of them escaped by scaling the fence, the enforcement team arrested 46 of them, including those, who carried out the attack.”
Egbeyemi, while urging motorcyclists and road users in the state to operate within the scope of the law.
