Steve Bruce has angered both sets of fans as he leaves Sheffield Wednesday for Newcastle United.
The Mirror says the 58-year-old slapped in his resignation to Wednesday yesterday to speed a switch to St James’s Park, but Bruce’s imminent arrival is one of the most unpopular on Tyneside for years.
Fans already at boiling point after losing Rafa Benitez and owner Mike Ashley failing again to sell up are cancelling season tickets and labelling Bruce a bad appointment.
He is also facing flak for staying at Hillsborough for just 18 games, after the club showed compassion and allowed him to delaying taking that job due to family and health issues.
Newcastle are in China for the Asia Trophy and it could be a push to get a visa sorted in time for Bruce to join them this week.
Instead he could spend time working out an emergency transfer strategy with the squad desperate for investment.
